Average hourly pay in region jumps 4.4 percent this year
Wage earners in Western Pennsylvania — from architects to zookeepers — were making an average of nearly 4.4 percent more early this year than the year earlier, a government survey showed Wednesday.
The overall average hourly pay rate of $19.78 as of March compared with $18.95 an hour in March 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The figures are in current dollars and not adjusted for inflation, which declined by 0.1 percent from March 2008 to last March. The survey combined full- and part-time wages.
