Unemployment benefits end for thousands in PA

(Harrisburg) -- The 79-week extension for state unemployment benefits has ended and, that leaves thousands of people without an income. More than 2,800 midstate residents are part of the estimated 23,000 people across the commonwealth who have filed their final claim for unemployment insurance. This is the first big group of people to stop getting benefits since they were extended due to the recession. Mark Price, a labor economist with the Keystone Research Center, a Harrisburg-based think tank, says cutting public aid even as the economy moves into recovery, could quickly cause a so-called double-dip recession.
