HARRISBURG – May 22, 2025Stephen Herzenberg, Executive Director of Keystone Research Center, issued the following statement regarding the House reconciliation bill:

“The reconciliation bill passed by House Republicans today is a disaster for working Pennsylvanians. This legislation would increase inequality by making the Trump tax cuts permanent, benefiting the wealthiest Americans while proposing devastating cuts to critical programs that Pennsylvania families rely on.

“The proposed Medicaid work requirements could cause thousands of Pennsylvanians to lose healthcare coverage, and the cuts to SNAP would harm food security for our most vulnerable residents. Additionally, the bill’s rollback of clean energy credits undermines Pennsylvania’s progress toward a sustainable energy future and threatens potential job growth in renewable energy, manufacturing, and construction.

“Instead of supporting policies that benefit working families and promote shared prosperity, this bill prioritizes tax breaks for the wealthy while undermining our social safety net. The Senate should reject this harmful legislation and instead focus on policies that strengthen working families and create an economy that works for all.”
