HARRISBURG, PA – The Keystone Research Center strongly supports County Executive Sara Innamorato’s executive order establishing an office of worker protections in Allegheny County especially in the wake of the Clairton Plant explosion which killed two and injured 10.

“This is a landmark step for protecting workers’ rights in Allegheny County,” said Bernie Gallagher, Executive Director of the Keystone Research Center. “By establishing an office dedicated to labor protections, County Executive Innamorato is filling critical gaps left by federal enforcement decline. In a time when organized labor faces unprecedented challenges, initiatives like this ensure that workers’ voices remain strong and their rights protected. The Keystone Research Center fully supports this proactive approach to safeguarding the dignity of work in our communities.”

The executive order, signed on August 27, creates a framework to enforce labor and anti-discrimination laws at the county level and develops a Best Value Procurement program requiring county contractors to demonstrate commitments to worker safety and equal opportunity.
